September 9, 2014, Alexandria, Va. The National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA) congratulates Dan Smith on being elected to serve another term as the NACTA representative on the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) Board of Directors.

Smith has represented the 1,800 members of NACTA for the past 1.5 years on the Board, supporting NACTA President Ann van Leeuwen. “It has been my pleasure to know and work with Dan for the past several years,” said van Leeuwen. “Like all of us in this industry, Dan loves to travel, meet new people, embrace new cultures and expand horizons. He is a great spokesman for NACTA, and continues to represent us well with our sister organization, ASTA,” she said.

Smith has owned his own travel agency for 20 years—Travel By Dan in Seattle, Wash.—and has traveled extensively in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central and South America. He also spent 17 years with United Airlines, gaining invaluable experience that allows him to negotiate the best ticket prices for his clients.

“It is my great honor to continue to represent the NACTA community for this next term as your voice as the NACTA Director on the ASTA Board,” said Smith. Thank you for electing me for this second term and know I will represent you, the NACTA member well.”

In addition to representing NACTA on the ASTA Board, Dan is also the current PNW NACTA Chapter Director. Initially the PNW chapter started with 20 members and with the assistance of an excellent board grew the chapter up to 65 members over the past few years.

Smith was chosen to again represent NACTA in elections held in August at the national and chapter levels. The ASTA Board of Directors convenes on Sept. 14 at the start of the ASTA Global Convention (AGC) to elect the new Chairman of the Board for 2014-2015. The new board then takes office at the conclusion of the AGC on Sept. 21.

The National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA) is the travel industry’s leading national trade association representing independent contractors, outside sales agents, cruise and tour oriented agents, group oriented travel consultants and traditional ARC-appointed travel agencies that provide services and support to such professionals. Established in 1986, NACTA’s mission is to represent the interest of independent travel entrepreneurs and to promote professionalism and recognition for the professional independent consultant. NACTA is an affiliate of ASTA, the American Society of Travel Agents, the world’s largest travel trade association.
